About
this edition:
Walter Rane studied at the Art Center
College of Design in Los Angeles prior to beginning a career in
New York City as a freelance commercial artist and illustrator.
In 1994 he moved his family to Oregon to focus on portraiture,
landscapes, and the scriptural studies for which he is becoming
best-known to Latter-day Saints.
Though he began his career as an illustrator,
his approach to painting is emotional and figurative, not literal.
"I don't try to paint as if I were there with my camera capturing
the moment," Rane says. "Rather, I try to depict how
it felt at that moment. That's what I paint."
As an added feature, The Cricket and Seagull Fireside
Chat has received permission to feature the images our webpage,
allowing you to see the paintings as they are presented and discussed.
