Music & interviews for Latter-day Saints and their friends world-wide

Meridian Magazine announces the beginnings of Meridian Radio! Starting today, you can always find the latest edition of "The Cricket & Seagull Fireside Chat" right here on Meridian.

Every two weeks "The Cricket & Seagull" will be the faithful-but-informal voice bringing music and interviews of interest to Latter-day Saints and their friends to a world-wide audience. And, unlike regular radio, you can listen on demand when you have time, even listen more than once.

Songwriter & playwright Steven Kapp Perry starts today bringing us the experiences, knowledge, and passions of authors, artists, musicians, scholars, and fellow Saints -- all in their own unique voice. Pull up a chair and join us for "The Cricket & Seagull Fireside Chat"!

HOW DO I LISTEN?

About today's episode:

Ever since the word 'Zarahemla' was first spoken in this dispensation, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have been fascinated by the geography and artifacts connected with the book of scripture that gives them their nickname -- the Book of Mormon.

In this edition we'll talk with Dr. Joseph Allen, author, educator, tour leader, and explorer, about the questions most often asked; Why Central America instead of North or South? Did Joseph Smith ever call the hill where he got the plates 'Cumorah'? And what about the earthquakes and destructions that changed the whole face of the land? Are there spiritual benefits to understanding Book of Mormon geography?

Joseph Allen has spent over forty years in researching, writing about, and traveling through Mesoamerica's ancient civilizatons. His formal education is centered in ancient scripture and history along with culture and language of the pre-Conquest peoples of Mexico and Central America. He has escorted over 200 groups and traveled over a million and a half miles though the jungles and mountains of Central America. Questions on Book of Mormon history and geography may be addressed to Dr. Allen via e-mail to drallen@ldstours.com .

This week's musical excerpts were taken from:

"Guardians of Time" by Greg Hansen from his CD "Wilderness"

"What Can They Have to Say?" by Steven Kapp Perry from the CD "From Cumorah's Hill"
