Note: As we go to publish this piece, it has only been two hours
since President Hinckley passed away and we have been looking
with joy and sadness upon the pictures that follow. We first
published this photo essay on President Hinckley before the
April General Conference of 2006, just twenty-two months ago.
It was highly read then and so loved we decided it would be
appropriate to run it again as we think about the amazing life
that he has led. We have not changed the captions or writing
to be past tense. Oh, how we love this great prophet!
We have been around President Hinckley in
some wonderful places - in the Kirtland Temple, in the White
House, in the Nauvoo Temple, in Moscow, in Ghana, and in Manhattan
to name a few. He has been with us so long, we thought he would
live forever. Come and remember him with some of our very favorite
pictures.
I have published about 30 of my
favorite pictures I’ve taken of the Prophet—I went
through our trips and pulled them quickly. I’ve captioned
them simply. I thought this would be a great way to remember
this great prophet, whose loss we mourn.

President Hinckley always uses his
cane, just not much for walking. Accra, Ghana.

See what I mean. He was told to carry a cane and that’s what
he does—he carries it. Elder Russell M. Nelson is at far right.

Not all of us have such a fancy pointing stick as President
Hinckley. Kirtland Temple.

We marveled at the contrast of Joseph Smith’s visit to the White
House to meet with President Van Buren and President Hinckley’s
visit to the White House to receive the Presidential Medal of
Freedom, the highest honor given a United States citizen. The
White House, Washington, D.C.
President Hinckley said that “Sister Hinckley would have loved
this event.” The White House, Washington, D.C.

As part of the press corps, we love meeting with President Hinckley.
He is articulate, sharp, witty and fun. The press love him.
The White House, Washington, D.C.

Here, President and Sister Hinckley stopped for a moment and
talked to three of my children. Of course he kidded with them
and got them all laughing. Kirtland, Ohio.

I loved seeing those two beautiful heads of hair side by side.
Kirtland, Ohio.

This picture hangs in our daughter, Mariah’s, room. That is,
of course, Mariah on the left shaking hands with President Hinckley.

President Hinckley brightens up any day—even this cloudy day
in The Netherlands as he greeted the saints who awaited his
arrival. The Hague Temple.
