Entrepreneur Ralph Yarro has found a consuming mission in life to do the Savior’s work in a very tough arena. Choosing to put his very successful career on hold at a young age, he devotes all his time, energy and resources to fighting the scourge of pornography that is destroying families and robbing young men of their future as fathers in Zion.

He says, “Let’s put it all on the line to do something that will pass congressional scrutiny and do something now before it’s too late.”

Getting Past our Sense of Futility

Yarro’s non-profit organization, which can be visited at http://www.cp80.org/, gives us all the tools to fight this battle as mothers, fathers, husbands, and wives. CP80 has produced a unique solution to protecting children online.

In Yarro's opinion, as shown on his website, filters just do not work. What is needed is a separate port (or access point) for our computers that would allow only family-friendly material to be accessed from the Internet. This effectively side-steps the “free speech” arguments, allowing anyone to access other available ports that will let them view anything they please.

CP80.org is in the process of constructing ten lessons in ten languages to educate us all and make us all qualified to fight this battle. These lessons give us a basic understanding of the Internet, a simple explanation of the CP80 solution, show the affects to the brain of pornography, explain Internet government issues, and tell what parents can do.

Success is a Possibility

Available on the site is the draft of a “Resolution Urging Congress to Stop Internet Pornography to Children and Employees” (already endorsed by Governor Jon Huntsman of Utah, and passed by the Utah House of Representatives). It is currently being considered for vote by the Utah State Senate. If passed, it will be sent to the U.S. Congress.

Yarro is putting everything he has into this effort, meeting with law professors, administrators, business and religious groups around the country. It is his hope that the end result of this will be that all those concerned about this problem will propose like resolutions in their states and contact their federal representatives, voicing their support for CP80.

Five Steps

In brief, here are the five steps that Yarro proposes that will allow parents and other concerned citizens to fight a successful war on pornography:

Find your voice. Recognize that you do have a voice in this battle.
Educate yourself so that your voice has credibility. Do this by going to www.CP80.org.
Deploy your voice with appropriate audiences. Help your neighbors and friends of like mind to find their voice. Write to State and Federal representatives that you want the legislation that CP80 proposes passed.
Register on the CP80 site to receive newsletters and action items, polls, notification of significant events.
Use the “Draw the Line” tool to make your voice heard in the polls.

Conclusion

In my last article, I wrote about the horizontal and vertical aspects of the atonement. Once we are truly aware of what has been sacrificed for us — every drop of our Savior’s divine blood — we become desirous of making our own sacrifices to help others to partake of and to realize the blessings of the atonement.

All of us have our own missions that we were born to serve. Elder Bruce C. Hafen said in his masterful discourse on the atonement:

Without his dear, dear sacrifice, there would be no way home, no way to be like Him. He gave us all He had. Therefore, “how great is his joy,” when even one of us “gets it” — when we look up from the weed patch and turn our face to the Son ... If we must give all that we have, then our giving only almost everything is not enough. If we almost keep the commandments, we almost receive the blessings ...

Some people want to keep one hand on the wall of the temple while touching the world’s “unclean things” with the other hand. We must put both hands on the temple and hold on for dear life. One hand is not even almost enough ...

So we must willingly give everything, because God Himself can’t make us grow against our will and without our full participation. Yet even when we utterly spend ourselves, we lack the power to create the perfection only God can complete. Our all by itself is still only almost enough ? until it is finished by the all of Him who is the “finisher of our faith.” At that point, our imperfect but consecrated almost is enough. (Ensign, May, 2004)

As we each contemplate what it means to give our all, let us use Ralph Yarro as one example of a person who is using his talents, abilities, wealth, and influence to fight Satan’s blight on our world. What can we do?
