Heavenly Hinckley

Our granddaughter, 5, was praying at her grandmother's knee. She asked Heavenly Father to bless this person and that person and then added: "Oh, and please bless heavenly Hinckley."

Follow the Prophet

Our 4-year old granddaughter, Erin, was asked what she thought the family should name her new baby brother. She suggested the name “Jordon.” We told her we'd also need to choose a middle name. She paused, then her eyes lit up and she yelled out: "Jordon B. Hinckley!"

Be Smart

Today as I was doing my daily read of Meridian Magazine, my 5-year-old daughter, Natasia, saw a picture of President Hinckley touring Kirtland. I asked her if she knew who it was. She said: "It's President Clinkley. He is the prophet who teaches everyone about not being stupid."

Wishful Thinking

My 3-year-old, Heather, noticed the large silk flower arrangement at the front of the chapel during sacrament meeting. "Mom," she said, "I want that beautiful flower." I whispered that the flowers belonged in the church and she could not have them. She immediately answered: "But, Mom, President Hinckley wants me to have that flower."

Team Hinckley

We were watching our son play football at Gateway High School with some people from our ward. The following year, their son would be playing at Hinckley High. I asked the boy's little sister if she would cheer for Gateway or Hinckley next year. The 3-year-old stated: "I'm going to cheer for the Prophet!"

One Important Fish

Our neighbors have a 2-year-old daughter who is very smart. Recently, she won a goldfish at a birthday party. Her mom asked her to tell us what she had named her goldfish and she replied: "President Hinckley!"

Name Game

When my daughter was 4, we were on the road traveling. A tractor-trailer passed with a letter J on it and I asked my daughter if she knew anyone whose name started with a ”J.” She quickly responded: “Jordan B. Hinckley!”

General Conference

Yesterday I was rearranging my tape collection with the help of my 3-year-old son, Christian. He handed me a General Conference tape and asked who was on it. I told him that the Prophet, Gordon B. Hinckley, was on the tape and he asked with excitement: "Can I listen to Gordon B. Twinkley?"

Follow the Prophet

While preparing for a talk, my 3-year-old daughter, who was standing next to me, saw a picture of President Gordon B. Hinckley on the cover of the Ensign . She burst out: "I know who that is — it's Heavenly Hinckley! And I know what he wants me to do. He wants me to say my prayers, brush my teeth and go to bed!"

I Voted

I was driving to the store with my 6-year-old daughter when she asked about all the colorful political signs that line the street. I explained that it is an election year and anyone 18 years or older can vote for the president of the United States. After a moment of silence, she said with great concern: "I hope you and Dad vote for President Hinckley!"

The First Presidency

A few years ago my granddaughter, Rebecca, was listening to a Primary lesson. The teacher spoke about the bishop and his counselors, and how they were called the bishopric. Then the leader held up a picture of the First Presidency and asked, "What do we call these men?" Rebecca answered: "The President Hinckleyric."

Popular Vote

On Election Day we told our children to put on their shoes because we were going to go vote for the president. Our 4-year-old son said: "But I like President Hinckley! I think he is doing a good job."

Extreme Haircut

One day I was cutting my 4-year-old's hair. He asked if I could shave the top of his head bald. I asked him why, and he replied that he wanted to look just like President Hinckley!
