Helsinki Finland Temple: Diamond of
the North,
Part 3
A Photographic Essay by Scot Facer Proctor
The light was so beautiful as it reflected off the doors of the temple, many people commented that they knew that God was aware of them and especially aware of President Hinckley being there. This picture was taken 13 minutes before the first session started.
There is something ancient about this scene—the combination of the door, the wall motif and the light fixture. I love it.
Please notice the beautiful carved wood that surrounds the door of the temple. It is very unique and very impressive.
I wish every young person in this temple district could put this picture in their room to remind them of the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the joy that it can bring to them and that the door of the temple beckons to them. I just couldn’t get enough of this burst of light that came upon the temple.
Yes, now the figure of Moroni was also bathed in this soft, morning light. It was stunningly beautiful.
“Holiness to the Lord, The House of the Lord” inscribed upon this eastern-facing wall with the keystone below are also being touched by the light.
Because I was taking so many pictures of people during this burst of morning light (many of which you will see in a future photo essay), I really was not able to take as many pictures of the temple itself like I would have liked. From the time the sun peaked through the clouds until we did not see it again (the rest of the day) it was only 18 minutes.
Here you can see the railing that was built for the ramp that leads to where the cornerstone or coverstone ceremony takes place at the southeast corner of the temple.
