Missionary Killed by Drunk
Driver
SALT LAKE CITY — On Sunday
morning, 23 April 2006, Elder Matthew S. Turley of Ridgefield,
Connecticut, was killed while walking on a path beside a
street in San Luis, Argentina. Elder Turley was struck from
behind by a drunk driver driving on the wrong side of the
road.
His companion, Elder Tyler
A. Watts of West Valley City, Utah, was also hit. Elder
Watts was treated at a local hospital and released and is
expected to make a full recovery.

Elder Tyler Watts, Elder Turley’s companion, is
expected to recover from his injuries.
The missionaries were on their
way to meet a family that is preparing for baptism and accompany
them to Church meetings. Local Church members assisted the
missionaries following the accident.
San Luis is in the Argentina
Mendoza Mission. Elder Turley had served for 21 months,
Elder Watts for 17.
“We extend our deepest sympathies
to the family of Elder Turley,” said Church spokesman Dale
Bills. “We pray that the Lord will comfort them as they
mourn his loss. Our prayers are also with Elder Watts and
his family as he recovers from his injuries.”
