There is a moment that Maurine and I anticipate at each coverstone
ceremony that is so wonderful. It is when President Hinckley
will look out into the crowd and invite some little children
to come up and help place some mortar (or “mud” as he calls
it) around the coverstone.

This little boy was soooo happy to
come and join the Prophet.

Within moments President Hinckley instructs the children on how to place the mud on the coverstone. President Hinckley has dedicated 91 temples (the
total number of operating temples is now 120).

The children are eager to help the Prophet. President Hinckley
wants this youngest generation to have memory of these events
to carry into generations yet unborn.

This little boy was quite eager and sure of himself as he was
the first of his generation to help seal the coverstone.

This little girl, Sofia Briones, dressed
in white was delighted to be a part of the ceremony.

Sofia observed the other little children and was quick to get
a little mud in the trowel and go over to the coverstone.
President Hinckley looks on as the children participate.

Sofia now places the mud at the base of the coverstone.

President Gordon B. Hinckley delights with the Saints on these
occasions. It’s always amazing to note that it took the Church
167 years to dedicate the first 50 temples and only forty months
to dedicate the next 50.
