Carolyn Nicolaysen

Meet Author Carolyn Nicolaysen

Carolyn Nicolaysen grew up in New Jersey where she loved baking with her grandfather, swimming, singing in school choirs, and visiting the Jersey Shore. Carolyn joined the LDS Church while attending Central College in Pella, Iowa where she earned a degree in home economics with an emphasis on foods and nutrition and a minor in science.  She met her husband, Don, at BYU Provo where she studied for the last semester of her senior year.

As an educator, Carolyn taught high school in California, served two terms as an elected trustee on her local school board, and helped write grants and curriculum for the school district. She has taught personal and family preparedness to all who will listen. Having lived in areas where she experienced hurricanes, ice storms and tornadoes, and now living in a flood and earthquake-prone region, Carolyn has developed a passion for readiness.

She speaks at church and community preparedness events, does  private consultations, writes the Totally Ready Blog, a monthly newsletter, and moderates a Yahoo forum devoted to food storage and disaster readiness. Carolyn is a favorite guest on several blog talk radio shows.

Carolyn is a licensed Amateur Radio operator (K6CJN) and has received first responder training.

Carolyn has authored several eBooks: Mother Hubbard: What She's Doing Now is a guide to food storage in the 21st century. Prep Not Panic - Keys to Surviving the Next Pandemic, That Won't Happen To Me,  providing additional insights on the diverse considerations of being prepared for good times and bad, as well as emergency scenarios you hope will never happen and Pack Your Bags We're Staying Home, a guide to a stay at home vacation.

Don and Carolyn are the parents of four children, and the grandparents of twelve. They live in Oakdale, California.
