Michael Dowdle, world-class guitarist and composer, speaks with purpose and vision about what he sees coming in music created by LDS people in the near future. In part two of a podcast interview on the  New Music Show on YourLDSradio.com, Dowdle talks of the growth of the church internationally and the cultural diversity accompanying it.

“As the Church grows and diversifies, our music is going to change.” says Dowdle. “Not in a negative way, but a broader one. An attitude of acceptance of many forms of music will hopefully continue. Music is a unifying factor in a diverse church.” 

Dowdle points out personal experiences with fans in other countries to illustrate his point that “as artists we need to think in terms of writing beautiful music,-writing great music-that is motivating and interesting to people...that will lift people's spirits by virtue of the music alone. Not that it has any particular agenda, but simply that it's good. And because it's good, it resonates with people who are good. That kind of quality music can lead to greater messages of testimony later on.”

Dowdle is perhaps more qualified than many to make statements such as these. His long list of national credits include writing music for the Today Show, the Ricky Lake Show,  and many network news themes, as well as countless albums and awards of his own. His work as a studio guitarist has literally defined much of the music in the industry for the last 30 years. And as a former bishop, his practical grasp of the gospel and music is very broad indeed.
