This Week in the Blogs

When I was a little girl, the “Wizard of Oz” was one of my all-time favorite movies. Who knew that I could use lessons learned in the movie and metaphors from the movie to help me help others learn about the gospel? The blogger writes about six different lessons that can be learned from the film, and I think they can apply to everyone: members, missionaries and non-members. “Get hold of your heels” and check out the metaphors here: because there's no place like home (or heaven).
- American Idol fans may be surprised to hear that David Archuleta has hinted about not going on an LDS mission, depending on how well his career goes in the next year. This blogger writes about the “fame” exception and asks the question if it's OK for famous Mormons to skip their missions. While this blogger's questioning is interesting, I found many of the comments readers have left to be even more insightful. Check out the blog here: and leave your own comments and opinions.
- Oftentimes at church we hear the expression “every member a missionary,” but besides giving out Books of Mormon and our testimonies, this blogger has found giving out LDS church videos to be effective as well. The blogger gives several tips on what videos to give out, how to go about giving them to your non-member friends, and how to be prepared. Check out the tips here.
- Occasionally when I'm searching through blogs, I yearn to find one or two that will lift my spirits and help me realize I'm not the only one who has those “down days.” I found an interesting story by a blogger about symbols, images and circumstances. This blogger, for example, uses the Washington Monument as a symbol to remember to be grateful and hopeful. I think many may have their own symbols and images they use to help keep them in check. I for one find the simple beauty of nature (trees, flowers, etc.) uplifting. What's your symbol or image? Check out the blog here.
- This blogger found a very entertaining video on YouTube featuring a well-seasoned couple playing the piano, and says “I hope we have this much fun after we've been married 62+ years.” I would have to agree. Marriage should always have some good times like the one shown in this video. Check it out here.
